Eclectic and Disorganized Eating

 

If you follow an eclectic eating lifestyle, you tend to eat food outside your own home, eat a variety of ethnic and fast foods, and you tend to eat snack or desert foods when you are home.  Eclectic eating patterns tend to become disorganized as food preparation falls to the bottom of the priority list. You may seldom cook proper meals at home. Instead, you bring home-prepared foods, or order from fast-food delivery services. Your home is stocked with snack foods. You may not have food preparation skills and dislike cooking at home. Your appetite regulation becomes disorganized. Addictive eating patterns increase. You experience strong cravings for high caloric foods. Excessive weight gain is a common consequence.

Many families with working parents eat prepackaged and fast foods routinely. They may sit at the dinner table together some of the time, but properly cooked home-prepared meals are unusual. The less affluent eclectic eater frequents fast food outlets and chain restaurants. This cuisine continues to feature burgers, fries, pizza, fried chicken, steaks, donuts, cookies, sandwiches, pop, orange juice, milkshakes, ice cream, and coffee. These are wheat-milk-beef foods with high fat and high sugar content. Tacos, yogurt, fruit drinks, and salads are slight improvements on the old themes. Cooked vegetables are usually scarce; salads are often minimal and poor quality.

Lack of interest in eating proper foods, lack of money, illness, loneliness, and disruption of family groups all contribute to disorganization.

Single, working people often do not know how to cook proper meals at home. They maintain a semblance of health, despite their poor eating habits, often associated with drinking and sometimes drug abuse. Eventually, they slip or avalanche into a dysfunctional state and often have food allergy symptoms with compulsive eating.

The challenge to regain control of eating behaviors for disorganized eaters is obviously different from  better-organized people. If you belong to the eclectic eaters group, organized or disorganized, your first task is to begin eating meals at home.
