John Birks "Dizzy" Gillespie was an American jazz trumpeter, bandleader, and
composer. He is remembered as a gentle man, innovative musician and jazz
ambassador, giving people all over the world pleasure in his performances and
leaving them with a good feeling about America.
In the early 40's Gillespie and Charlie Parker developed bebop, the basis of
modern jazz. He was a inspiring trumpet virtuoso and mentor to younger
Stephen has arranged his version of A Night in Tunisia a jazz standard
written by Gillespie in 1942. It became a signature piece for Gillespie's bebop
band. It has been covered by the best jazz players such as Bud Powell, Stan
Getz, Maynard Ferguson, Miles Davis, Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers and
Night in Tunsia
