Counterpoint for Genius Volume 4
Created by Stephen Gislason
My Counterpoint for Genius series is a collection of four albums that has evolved over several years though experimentation with a number of transcriptions of Bach pieces, many from the religious Cantatas, mixed with different voicing and, different tempos and transpositions. Mozart has received the most attention as the composer of smart music. Bach excels. I realized that many of the Bach pieces I recorded were among the best examples of contrapuntal composition and that counterpoint was the perfect brain exercise
I pursued re-composition and re-voicing; of Bach pieces using; the extensive voice banks that I can access. The pieces are developed as multitrack midi compositions (by editing and arranging the printed scores) that play the instruments in the; Proteus 2500 ( the orchestra) with yours truly doing the final mix (conductor) and then completing the recording with all the finesse and polish I can muster (the sound engineer).
The Forth volume of the Counterpoint for Genius contains excerpts from the Cantatas 19 to 64, two sections from the B minor mass and the fugue in D.
Here are three pieces from Counterpoint for Genius Volume 4
