Adobe Portable Document Format  (PDF) is the standard for electronic document distribution worldwide. Adobe PDF is a universal file format that preserves all the fonts, formatting, graphics, and color of any source document, regardless of the application and platform used to create it. Adobe PDF files are compact and can be shared, viewed, and navigated  by anyone with free software.  Most computer users already have Abobe's Reader installed and the reader is integrated into Microsoft's internet explorer. Adobe automatically updates the reader as a free service. Updates are highly recommended for security reasons.  The latest Amazon Kindles can download and read PDF files via a computer and USB port.

The acrobat reader that can be used on most computers and special versions are available for compact and hand held computers. It's easy to download the free software — just select the Windows or Macintosh version. "

When you use the Adobe Reader on a desktop of laptop computer,  be sure to open the navigation pane  and click on bookmarks. This is opens a collapsible menu that allows you to to find topics quickly and move through the book. You can also use the search ( find) function to look for keywords or phrases. Add all your PDF files to the library so they are easy to find.

PDF eBook Readers 

Computers and laptops all display PDF files. Net books with 10" screens are a lightweight option for eBook, PDF, reading.  January 2010, Apple announced its new book tablet PC for less than $1K that promises to become popular. Amazon's Kindle has evolved quickly into an affordable and reasonably versatile device but only displays text in black and white and cannot render with color and graphic content. Several smart phones such as the Blackberry with larger, full color screens have become plausible eBook readers. Apple's iPod touch phone is popular and Google has introduced the Nexus phone with competitive features. The I Pod touch does not support PDF files. PDF viewing on  BlackBerry cell phones. SLG Mobile released BlackBerry Software in 2009, the Beam Reader, that allows original quality PDF viewing.  BeamReader also offers PDF rendering for Google's Nexus is fast and full fidelity with document navigation, text search within the document, support for bookmarks, and support for embedded links... A big plus for Google Nexus readers.
